Evermore, Alyson Noel – Book Review

Title: Evermore

Author: Alyson Noel

Published: February 2009

Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Paranormal, Romance,

Rating: 2/5

Ever is a 17-year-old high school student left with the ability to hear peoples’ thoughts and see the dead after a tragic car accident. More of an outcast at her school, she cannot help but start to fall for the new guy Damen. Stunningly handsome of course.

I picked this book up on a whim from the library. Let’s just say I was disappointed with it. I really wanted to love this book. The premise of the main characters abilities sounded interesting, and I’m a sucker for a cheesy YA romance. I found it really hard to relate to Ever despite the tragic car accident. I felt she was a whiny character, and I feel mean writing that.

Now, I like the handsome ‘bad boy’ in teen/YA books and shows a la Chuck Bass, Damon Salvatore even Klaus Mikealson

I didn’t really find any of the characters interesting or relatable. Despite the tragic accident, I found it hard to sympathise with Ever. Damon, the love interest, is a douche to put it quite simply, despite an ‘eternal love’ he treats Ever poorly.

This is a really short review, and I hate that, but I was really disappointed with this book. I’m glad I borrowed it from the library.
