Book Blog Posts

My favourite books…

Happy Friday! So, other than posting reviews I’m not really sure what to ‘blog’ about. Looking for ideas I cam across a suggestion about discussing your favourite books. Here are my favourite books:

To Kill a Mockingbird

A book that I know many people read in school, and hated it. Maybe because they were forced to read it or they were just not readers. I am somewhat glad that I did not study this in school, I do not like that I could have felt differently about this book.

To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the most fantastic books that I have read, its one that I always recommend when someone asks for a classic. This books shows hate and prejudice is not necessarily born within us. Scout and Jem Finch are children and they do not see the work as the rest of their town sees it. They fail to see why people can hate someone so much just for the colour of their skin.

There is language used in this book that is racist; but it does reflect the time it was written and the hate that people faced.

The Great Gatsby

I love this book, the glitz and the glam. Admittedly, I did read this after watching the movie. (1920’s fashion, cars and of course Leo DiCaprio sold me) After I wanted (maybe needed is a more appropriate word) to read the book.

No matter how many times, I watch/read the Great Gatsby; I will never forgive Daisy Buchanan. (you know what I mean if you’ve read or watched it)

The Secret Circle

Yes, this is three stories, The Initiation, The Captive and The Power. I am grouping them together because there is an overlying story arc across all three. I fell in love with these books when I first read them, and these are my go to books to reread, especially if I’m in a reading slump. I also loved the TV adaptation and was gutted when this was cancelled.

PS I totally ship Cassie and Nick btw.

Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban

I could put all of the Harry potter books down as my favourites, and they are, but having to pick just one it would be PoA. I love Harry Potter and I grew up reading them. My favourite character is Sirius Black, and this book is the introduction of his character. You spend most of the book thinking he is a crazed, escaped prisoner. Sirius is the one who gives harry hope that he could have a semblance of normal life, that he could have a family besides the Dursleys, someone would would love and care for him.  It is so annoying that they are unable to clear Sirius’ name.

Here are my favourite books, let me know what you think of them and your favourite books in the comments below!
